A Brief History
The origins of Reflexology dates back to the last 5,000 BC when the Chinese were known to have practised a form of Pressure Therapy with a basis similar to that of acupuncture. TheAncient Egyptians also used a similar method, which was illustrated on their tombs in 3,000 BC.
In 1913 DeWilliam Fitzgerald found that by applying pressure on certain parts of the hand before and during an operation, the patient felt less pain.
He traced these locations through the body and divided the body into longitudal lines with the medial line in the centre of the body.
However itwasDr Eunice Ingham who developed the system on the feet. It was then known as the Ingham method of Reflexology and brought to England by Mrs Doreen Bayley who set up the Bayley School of Reflexology. Reflexology is now mainly practised on the feet, as its gernerally considered that the feet are more responsive to the stimuli.
How it can help you.
Reflexology is very relaxing, it can help you sleep better and give you more energy. It has been successful in relieving many acute and chronic conditions, including back pain, insomnia, menstrual problems, migraine and astman to name a few.
Reflexology is a gentle, yet effective form of foot massage.
Both feet are worked at the same timeusing a special massage using the tunumbs and fingers.
On each 16th of an inch there is a Reflex Point which is lined to Energy Zones. When these points are massaged using thumbs and fingers an energy is released within the body which helps to normalise and restore balance. The feet are a mirror image of the whole body.
Training 2 Days
It is necessary for the course to be learnt over 2days thusenabling the whole of both feet to be incorporated. It is taught using both feetat the same time making training easier and more efficient for the student.
The Technique- This is necessary to perform the treatment.
As this course is taught over 2 days, it gives plenty of time to practise so by the end of the course the student is confident and able to perform an entire Treatment. Although you cannot diagnose using Reflexology only the medical profession are licensed to do this, you can still pick up imbalances within the body i.e. Back Pain, Shoulder pain, knee pain and many others enabling you to suggest a visit to the doctors.
